San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission approves Alamodome renovations

Renovations to the Alamodome, including a new concessions area, a beer garden, and a wider concourse, were approved by the Historic and Design Review Commission at its Wednesday meeting.

The renovations will add wings to east and west sides of the Alamodome, totaling 55,000 square feet of new space. Renderings submitted to the commission show new, winding concession counters and a beer garden with half a dozen tables.

Outdoor terraces will be on top of the new wings, with counters and bar chairs facing San Antonio’s skyline, the renderings show.

The renovations are part of a $42 million project to upgrade the Alamodome, which city officials hope will extend the venue’s lifespan and help it attract marquee events, according to Express-News archives.
